Trackers Northwest - Trackers Northwest
Trackers Northwest aspires to give the children and adults who participate in its outdoor education programs the feeling of a connection to both the land and the community at large. In today’s fast-paced, technologically-driven society, Trackers Northwest leaders believe that taking the time to develop a deeper relationship with the natural world provides invaluable benefits.
Trackers Northwest got its start in 2004. Tony and Molly Deis founded the company following Tony’s experience as the creator of outdoor education programs for organizations such as the Portland State University, Metro Regional Parks and Greenspaces, and the Audubon Society of Portland. Referrals from satisfied parents and students since have helped Trackers Northwest grow into one of most respected outdoor camp programs in the Portland, Oregon, area and elsewhere.
At the outdoor camp experiences offered by Trackers Northwest, instructors work to help students develop survival skills as well as a broad knowledge of outdoor lore and traditional crafts. This type of education was common in the days of our ancestors but is now surprisingly rare.
While Trackers Northwest designs its programs to provide participants with a sense of adventure and the thrill that comes with exploring unfamiliar territory, safety remains a primary concern for every staff member. Staff takes part in ongoing education to ensure that everyone involved with Trackers Northwest knows the standards for safety and responsibility in the wilderness. Additionally, Trackers Northwest has been fully bonded and licensed with the State of Oregon.
Trackers Northwest remains committed to making outdoor education opportunities accessible to as many people as possible. The company provides scholarship assistance for some self-funded programs. Trackers Northwest also offers community-based family day events on a regular basis.
