La Petite Baleen - For three decades, La Petite Baleen has been a national leader in blending child development with aquatic training.
La Petite Baleen Swim Schools have taught aquatic skills in unique ways since the company began in the backyard pool of John Kolbisen and Irene Madrid in 1979. Since then, La Petite Baleen has expanded to three California locations: Half Moon Bay, San Bruno, and San Francisco. Classes are offered in a friendly, relaxed environment for swimmers of all skill levels and every age, ranging from babies and toddlers to teenagers and adults. Classes for those with special needs as well as private and semiprivate classes are available as well.
La Petite Baleen boasts impressive student-to-teacher ratios and a unique teaching philosophy that stresses important life skills in all its classes. In addition to helping students master important swimming techniques and water safety lessons, the school’s instructors also want to impart to students valuable life lessons in responsibility, resiliency, self-respect, teamwork, and open communication. The staff members at La Petite Baleen believe that children will benefit from and enjoy their learning experience to a far greater extent by involving their parents. Consequently, instructors try to keep parents up to date on their children’s development through progress reports, newsletters, and phone conferences.
Additionally, the qualified and courteous staff at La Petite Baleen will give parents peace of mind and the assurance that their children will be in good hands as they learn to swim. All instructors regularly attend staff meetings, study sessions, and clinics to ensure that they are following La Petite Baleen’s methods and honing their teaching skills. Swim instructors also conduct and attend seminars and conferences in conjunction with the United States Swim School Association, the World Aquatic Baby Congress, and the Swim for Life Foundation.
